Carnie Wilson Embraces The Chunk
Carnie Wilson got her stomach pinched and her intestines rotated live on the internet in 1999 and the chunk quickly slipped off her body the same way the name of the other ginger in Wilson Phillips always slips off your mind (It's WENDY FYI). For the next 11 years, the weight came off and on several times. Well, Carnie is back in all her BBW glory and tells Popeater that she's embracing it:
"I'm fat as fuck, what can I say? You know, after all these years, it's just like we are who we are and it's a struggle for me and sometimes I'm heavier and sometimes I'm thinner."
You go Carnie Coco! Fuck it and fuck putting your internal organs on webcam. No, seriously, don't put your internal organs on webcam again.

I work at my weight too: when I overeat regularly I get chubby just like anyone else. So I don't overeat or starve b/c I've got hellishly strong willpower--it's just as addictive to ana-starve as it is to overeat! Obviously Carnie is not as blessed w/willpower but I don't blame her. Almost everyone in America has a warped relationship with food.

1. Whole Foods/organic/etc. is damn expensive and you have to be willing to prepare a ton from scratch to save money. Easy . . . in a world where I a don't have to have a job!
Haha, great point. My mother makes everything from scratch and loves to entertain so whether it's Christmas or summer at the cabin when the family gets together, she spends the majority of the time in the kitchen prepping for a meal, cooking a meal or cleaning up after a meal. Even with help, she still seems to always be doing stuff in the kitchen.
I love going to the farmer's market to buy local fruits and veggies during the summer, but I do end up spending a lot more. However, since it's snow and -20C to -40C from November to March here, I'm very happy to shell out for fresh, local produce when we can get it. I'm just coming out of a time when I had to tighten the purse strings a bit and as an example, instead of our usual low fat, high fibre bread at $2.69 a loaf, I got the 80% whole wheat bread at $0.88 a loaf. It doesn't seem like a big diff, but when you have to plan a menu for a month and make a grocery list, you have to make sacrifices like that if you just don't have the budget for it. The kids are not shy in letting me know they missed the healthier bread, lol.
Btw, bambam, sonah22, Tigerlilly and Fucking_Classy also made really good points. Great posts.
She is a big girl but very pretty. As for eating well I think that the issue is not the cost but the effort. Cooking with fresh, whole food, planning meals, and being creative do take some kind of extra education these days. Time to bring back mandatory H.S. Home Ec. for girls and boys because managing your life includes more than just money and relationships.
You go, bambam!
Fat fuck!
1. Whole Foods/organic/etc. is damn expensive and you have to be willing to prepare a ton from scratch to save money. Easy . . . in a world where I a don't have to have a job!
2. Carnie looks great being a little zaftig. It's always preferable to see a natural-looking woman. I'd rather see a 60 year old with more wrinkles than a basset hound then a doll-faced freak who has surgeried her corpus into undead faux youth any day.
3. Lap band should only be done if the person will die without it. It's barbaric! Our culture has fantastically warped attitudes towards food. We're an age-disrespecting addictive binge-gorge culture that idolizes death camp anorexic 17 year old white women as the epitome of success and beauty. We're detached zombies who don't care how animals are slaughtered and abused so we can eat them while we visit their caged brethren in the zoo.
4. Food is the ultimate medical investment--every healthy action done while you're still young & robust will pay off dividends later. Sadly, the opposite is also true.
5. I'm a sad, pathetic dlisted junkie--as much for Tigerlily, DirtyWhoreMouth, FuckingClassy, and suckandfuck and the rest of you as I am for MK!

Drop the social justice high-horse crap. While you're doing that, shop around for a sense of humor, though I doubt they sell them at Whole Foods.

Why am I not surprised? That's the standard comeback for people who're told what to think; anyone with an opposing viewpoint must be like them. You stupid bitch, you're taught to hate on certain people so much you don't even have a clue how life can be out in the world.
Get your hick ass out of lowbrow country. You might meet people with talents you wish you had and wonder why they got blessed and you didn't, why something's so easy for them yet hard for you. You might run across people who envy you for something that comes easily to you yet is difficult for them. If you have any brains at all maybe you'll realize that's just how life seems to work, whether we like it or not.
Some people smoke cigarettes with full knowledge of how it ends if they don't quit, yet they don't quit. That's how it is, that could be you or me in some other area of life. So who the fuck are you to judge just because you're able to live one way and other people aren't? It's not being socially high handed, it's recognizing that there but for the grace......
You need to learn some humility, do something about your black heart. Life has a away of putting people in check.

However, you can absolutely eat healthy foods cheaply. Why does the lie that healthy foods are exorbitantly expensive continue to persist? A bag of frozen damn peas costs between 50 cents and a dollar! A bag of Doritos is like 3.99.
_______________________________
I have to jump in with my two cents - yes, healthy foods can be reasonably priced IF you can get to them with limited transportation options. I worked in a low-income area with no grocery stores or big box stores within reasonable walking distance. If you can't get somewhere by bus or foot due to no car, you're out of luck.
ETA: thanks for the Tuesday shopping tip. I'm going to try it this week.

Hey y'all,
One tip for cheaper grocery shopping, and it WORKS at conventional grocery stores: Shop on Tuesdays. TRUST. I save sooo much money this way. And Super Target on Tuesdays is amazing, as is Tom Thumb/Vons. Target also has cheaper all-natural meats, which are again, cheaper on Tuesdays.
And also make recipes before you go, and write a list. Also avoid inside aisles-also cheaper that way. And if you eat more fat, you'll be full longer, which makes low glycemic easier and food cheaper. Nut butters are also really filling, as is hummus, which homemade can be super cheap to make with a blender. Try to freeze things you get bored with also, including herbs and veggies. I also buy my teas at Ross/TJ Maxx, which are great places to get gourmet for a bit cheaper.

Now I am aware enough of the ways of the world but not you, no, you just have this oh so superior opinion that people can change their habits just like that, that's all there is to it. Very well said Fucking_Classy. Probably the most thoughtful comment I've read on Dlisted about our culture's obsession with the perfect body. When I read sh*t about Jessica Simpson being "fat", it makes me sick. Not because I like J.S. but because if she is considered fat, then the majority of women in our society will see themselves as lazy pigs. The only advice anyone needs to take is to exercise regularly and eat in moderation. Fuck the over exercising and the dieting or starving. Enjoy your life, eat what you want, and do some outdoor activities to get off your ass once in a while.
For those of you who care... there are a lot of charities now that give (or sell at well below cost) "Good Food Boxes" to low income families. They're filled with fruit, veggies and healthy grains. It seems as though a lot of you are passionate about this subject; maybe you can make a donation at Christmas to support this kind of program.

Really, check out the doc, "Food, Inc."
There is a politics to food, and for some, there is the issue of time and money and accessibility. I'm not talking about people, regardless of their weight, who eat crap. But the food industry makes it harder for farmers (evil, evil Monsanto), and processed foods are shoved in our faces and made cheaper.
And then there was that Jamie Oliver show on ABC, "Food Revolution," where he tried to bring healthy food to school cafeterias. The school chef/administrator or whatever she was argued with him that french fries are a vegetable.
And you're not that poor if you're on a computer at midnight with internet access. Unless you're in prison, in which you should be more sympathetic about access to better food.
Gosh, a little compassion and understanding for those who find it tough to lose weight and keep it off. Jeesh.

At the supermarket I was shocked to hear the total, expecting it to be $40-$50 higher, since I buy pretty much the same stuff every week, and then I remembered that all those delicious yummy snacks I used to buy are a fucking ripoff.

Judgemental much? How do you know if those "lots of people" have access? If they have the willpower and/or wherewithal to change their lifestyle? There's four Whole Foods stores within city limits where I live, not a damn one of them in an economically depressed area.
There's Harris Teeters in some of those areas sure, but those areas are being slowly "gentrified" with young, educated high income people. Those are the people Teeters wants. Their prices are relatively high and not conducive to some with low or fixed incomes. Shopping almost becomes a burden.

Get it, bambam!!
Ridiculous. I'm so tired of people being contemptuous of others who aren't able to buy organic/natural/healthy foods. Just because these people grew up in a more informative era or are financially able (and therefore easier to commit to) to pay the exorbitant prices of said food doesn't mean everyone else is able to. Aside from developing unhealthy habits at early ages, some people don't have the income to make that commitment. Even if one were to make as much a commitment as financially able, there's many hurdles to clear. What if there's no centralized location close enough to travel to? What if they can't cook or are debilitated in some way that burdens them greatly?
Except in a pinch I buy most of my veggie staples (apples, onions, potatoes, tomatoes, greens) at local farmer's markets. Throw in a gallon of apple cider and it runs between 30 to 45 dollars a week. I go either to an Amish farmer's market or waaay across town for my chicken. Good local meat is much too expensive for everyday meals, since I don't eat too much I settle for what I can catch on sale at a chain grocery store. Bear in mind this doesn't include all the other everyday necessities a person has to buy.
I can afford it now but just barely, I have to watch my budget like a hawk. I know that this luxury could all go away just like that. Meantime, just like any other ordinary person I watch tv and get bombarded with ads enticing me to order a pizza, buy some fast food fluff burger and fries, bring home some processed breaded microwavable cheesy goop balls at all hours of the day.
And when I buy something at a grocery store and see some obese person with their gonna be obese kids and a shopping cart full of preservative added foods, sometimes I shake my head. But sometimes I see some person, maybe some elderly person past their physical prime, purchasing only a few, cheap items, I figure it's because they've been buying that brand for years and/or that's what they can afford. I realize then that some people just aren't capable, for whatever reason, of making that commitment.
That's how life is, some learn bad habits and aren't disciplined enough to change and some don't have the means (i.e. money). But there's always priviledged asses out there with pre concieved perceptions of what type of people these incapable folks are. These blissfully ignorant people make me sick.
Fuck you all and I don't mean that in a healthy, organic way.
I think how she looks now is okay. At least she isn't morbidly obese like she used to be. But I am totally against stomach stapling. I think it is a quick fix. Dropping weight and keeping it off is a physical as well as mental struggle. Only eating 1/2 cup of food for your meal is not teaching good habits to sustain a healthy lifestyle.
I'm aware that Detroit, for example, is a mine field that no food retailer dares operate in, which is a shame. But there's no evidence- for me anyway- that the customers there would buy things that are good for them, anyway. But let's say a typical American large town, for example, like the one where I live. I see what people are buying at the checkout line. They are middle-class, not drop-outs or on parole, either. They love sweet and/or salty crap washed down with either real Coke or some knock-off. The fresh produce aisle is always empty or roomy. People want what they want, and give little thought to the idea that food is actually our fuel. Again, look at Oprah as an example. She is super-rich, not an idiot, yet... Oh, yeah, and her chubby protege, Dr. Phil...
Last thing I'll add (sorry, I know, ranting) is that I DO think people can eat healthy for cheap, but that's where things like education come into play. There's also the whole argument about food addiction and how people actually becoming physically addicted to eating crap. Not to mention emotional issues that many people have with food and it becomes a huge complicated mess.
Anyway, I totally think it's possible to put healthy things into your body for low cost, but it requires knowledge, some planning, and just a basic desire to do so. I'll shush now. Sorry! Hope I didn't offend anybody.
Prof, I don't think it's just as simple as how much something costs at the grocery store. In many metropolitan centers, like where I lived last, there simply are no grocery stores. Look up food deserts. That means buying that organic bag of spinach now requires an hour on the bus to get out to the local Kroger chain or Whole Foods. Or, you can hit up the .99$ menu at one of five different fast food joints within walking distance of your apartment. Time being money, accessibility is a HUGE component of food cost for a large segment of people, especially those operating at poverty level.
Submitted by sonah22 on Sat, 12/11/2010 - 7:59pm
Definitely. I am by no means arguing that the BMI is the best or even an accurate way of gauging whether or not people are overweight. I don't think anybody is suggesting that fit and muscular males are overweight or unhealthy. That being said, Americans are bigger than they've ever been. I believe that can largely be attributed to lack of education regarding nutrition, increasing poverty levels, and massive government subsidies on things like corn that makes cheap, nutritionally empty, lab created food the go to food source for many families. It's sad, but eating healthy is a luxury many people just can't afford.
As another poster wrote, you need to see the documentary "Food, Inc."
Also, that beans and brown rice suggestion made me cry. Yuck.
Any mention of Carnie Wilson and I think to the story she told ? Rolling Stone when she met Barbra Streisand (AFTER "Wilson Phillips" and everything) and went on and on "Oh I love you so much....you are such a model....greatest ever...." and was met with a silent stare and then a "Get the F--- off my property!!!"
Traumatized for life, bet this was the beginning of "return to fat" phase.
Props to TigerLily. I thought I was the only one fed up with those who "can't afford healthy (sic) food." (I think they mean healthful food.) They either don't know or care about the price of things. It is the crap- candy bars, soda, white bread, that ounce-for-ounce, pound-for-pound, that are expensive, both at the store, and later at the hospital or pharmacy.
I recall years back when Elizabeth Taylor had this remarkable diet and weight loss, and even had a ghosted book about it. In reality, it was a staple, and staples didn't work longterm then, and they don't now. It is all a matter of budgeting your calories, exercise and common sense. Money is hardly a part of the equation. Look at Oprah. You can have a billion dollars and still live on Doritos and Hawaiian punch if you don't know or care. If she spent the same time and energy on her health as she does trying to convincve the world she has a sexual relationship with Stedman, well, you finish the sentence...

But you also have to consider what a load of BS the BMI scale is. All the men at my job, where a certain BMI gave greater discounts, were declared "obese." And guess what-these were all guys who had muscle, from normal-sized to super buff. It made no sense. They all do low carb, lots of veggies, etc. The BMI does not consider composition, muscle tone or athleticism. The statistics are greatly exaggerated. There were only two women at my job who got the full discount . One used to have a cancer and the ohter is 4'10 100 lbs!

Co Sign! And a lot of people don't realize that stomach stapling is really tough to deal with. I mean, you can barely eat, and once the food is out of your reach, you'll turn to something else to feed that addiction (IF there is one), usually drugs and alcohol. She looks good. I'm from the "pick a size and stick to it" club. Ex. Oprah looks good at a size 12/14. That bobble head look was BAD! But going up and down is not good for anybody's heart. And blaming it on genetics only works for a small percentage of ppl. Yes, living in America sucks coz the portions are huge at restaurants. But if one's weight causes complications (ex. diabetes), it's time to get real and stop blaming everybody else. I choose to eat to live and not live to eat Sun-Fri (aren't the weekends for alcohol?) but that's me and I don't exepct else to follow that. I wish her and anybody else struggling the best of luck and health. Cheers!
