Halle Berry Believes In The "One-Drop Rule"
Aaaand we're back to wading through this mess of insanity and fuckery again. Several sources have already branded Gabriel Aubry as the winner of Miss Aryan Nation 2010 by saying he flips his white hood whenever somebody refers to his daughter Nahla as black. If these sources are telling the truth, then I guess Gabriel's inner David Duke is raging like all hell this morning, because Halle Berry believes that Nahla is black. In case you're not keeping track of what Nahla checks as race on the Census, she's technically 25% black and 75% white.
In the March issue of Essence magazine (via TMZ), Halle gives a subtle "fuck you" to the rumors that Gabriel thinks his daughter is white by saying that Nahla is black. Halle said, "I feel she's Black. I'm Black and I'm her mother, and I believe in the one-drop theory."

We can argue about the "She's black! She's white!" mess all day long. There will always be people shouting that she's white. There will always be people shouting that she's black. There will always be people shouting that she's bi-racial. And there will always be people shouting that she's full lioness (include me in this group). Whatever. Being bi-racial myself, when people ask me what I am, I just tell them I'm 100% cunt slut. It keeps things simple.
Meanwhile, Gabriel and Halle need to go back to their padded room and scratch at each other about this issue some more. Make sure you blare "Black or White" through the speakers while they do that. Because if they keep fighting about this shit, Nahla is truly going to be full fucked up.

No one else needs to define her; only she should be able to do that. She will choose which culture to celebrate if not both.

But, to me, Nahla doesn't look black. If I saw her without her parents, I'd 100% assume that she was Latina. So, if the argument goes that someone who is visibly black = black, does being visibly Latina (even if she's not, in fact, of Latino origins) make Nahla Latina?

As for being a post-racial society, that will never, ever happen as long as there are humans. Humans will always find some way to segregate themselves. If there were one "race", people would still find a way to separate. Maybe it would be by earlobes, eye color, height, intelligence. Whatever, we would still do it.

Unfortunately every layperson uses the word "race" incorrectly, as they've been trained (brainwashed) to do. What you and many people around the world, and especially in America, fail to realise is we have already found a way to segregate ourselves as humans. The greatest segregation tool invented - creating this word "race" to represent the different colour make up among humans - to destroy and keep us as a people separated so the powers that be can always control and define our existence for us. And we LET THEM. Because from my education, there has only ever been one race of humans, who come in all shades and shapes who believe in all variety of religions and ideals; we have always been one f-ing race - the human race.

There are a bunch of idealistic delusional people on this site.
1) Why all the Halle hate? She didn't make up the one-drop rule. White people did. She's just following the rules. Blaming the victim doesn't make any sense. I suspect a lot of people here are closet racists, who want to find a way to tear Halle down because of stuff she didn't even make up.
2) Racism exists. Still. Today. If you are not a black person or if you are a black person that can pass for white, STFU and enjoy your privilege.
3) I'm guessing there are a lot of young mixed raced, not blacks on this site who are ignorant about racism against blacks in this country. Again, if you are half white half Asian you can STFU about the racism, because both races experience privilege, especially since it is known that Asians are the model minority.
4) Being of mixed race is great, but we have to be real. If you look black and are light skinned, no racist person is going to treat you as if you are white. Most people will look at you and think "black". There are a lot of silly idealists on this site.
5) I suspect that Halle is a bit off in the head and will stop at nothing to keep her daughter, but I do not think that Gabriel is a saint either. I also suspect that a lot of people want to side with him because:

How sad that, after hew own struggles, Halle would inflict the same kind of race identification on her own daughter instead of stating that she is simply a human being. In its essence, race does not matter. It's society's short-sighted projections that ultimately create racial struggles and how nice it would be if Halley had simply risen above the need to label people. Halle's own mother had to explain to Halle that while she is both races, the world will see her as black and believe me, Halle has enough proof of that, so she's basically saying the same thing to Nahla "you're mixed but society will call you black" and that's not racism, but a really sad acceptance of it.

Preach it! I could not agree more. I am old enough to know that there was a time when you were white or colored in this country. Colored meant back of the bus, balcony at the theater, separate cemeteries, separate dining facilities and separate everything (but not equal and THAT was what the Civil Rights Movement was about). I believe that child should be considered half-black, but as for being considered a black person, looks seem to matter most, imo. Her kid will be raised with privilege, but in the world at large she will obviously look like she has a black parent, and that matters a lot in society, whether for good or bad. If Nahla were not her daughter and any middle class kid in America, she would feel an outsider in some ways, and she still might in lilly white beverly hills or wherever she's living. Eventually she will realize she looks "different" from the white people around her and that people who look like her are facing different standards and possibly even struggles than the paris hiltons down the way. Not to mention her mother was forced to conform to get the career she has through plastic surgery on her nose and lips. Not to say that this child's life will be a struggle, but whether she looks black or not makes a huge difference in how she is perceived, how hard she will have to work if she enters entertainment(even with nepotism on her side) and her mating options.
That being said, she will be a beautiful kid and I hope that by the time she's an adult it won't be so rare for a black actress to get a magazine cover. I mean-Zoe Saldana was in one of the biggest blockbusters ever, and she hasn't gotten the magazine covers that the Transformers one got, even though she definitely looks a bit more articulate and a lot of men of all ethnicities seem to be attracted to her. I think it depends how people are treated by others. She was clearly treated as black, and as such identifies as black.
Lewis Hamilton the F1 driver is a 50/50 mix, but identifies as black and is called the first black F1 champion, but he is just as white. He is surrounded by black famous people and even has an ethnic (not white basically) beard.. sorry girlfriend. A white girlfriend/beard/whatever wouldnt be acceptable to the image of an 'almost black but trying to be' guy.
