Ricky Martin Won A GLAAD Award Last Night
And either the excitement of winning an award fermented and bubbled over putting him in a drunk euphoric coma, or the camera caught the moment his butt finally exhaled out a fart that had been stuck in there all day. Either way, Ricky Martin is relaxed. So yeah, Ricky won a trophy at the GLAAD Media Awards last night for being GAY!, OUT! and a CELEBRITY! Ricky told reporters that declaring his love for the peen was welcomed with open arms (and other body parts). Ricky thanked his partner Carlos and then gave a shout to Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, etc... Sadly, Ricky didn't give a special thanks to his shiny red Menudo jeggings. Here's Ricky's speech:
“I just want to be free. I can say today I'm free. And for that I definitely need to thank my parents for being so supportive, my mother and my dad for their unconditional love, and my friends, my family, my fans. And my partner in crime and my boyfriend Carlos. And GLAAD let's go to Latin America, let's share the love! Let's go to Mexico! Let's go to Columbia! Let's go to Argentina! Let's go to Chile! Let's go to Brazil! We need you GLAAD -- we need you down there, we need to spread the love in Latin America. Let's do it in Spanish. I can help, I can do it! I'll be part of it. I want to be part of it.”
"Let's do it in Spanish" has just become my new favorite fuck partner pick-up line. And besides Ricky, other hos who found a trophy in their hands last night included Tina Fey and True Blood (full winners list here).
And here's some pictures! In order: Ricky Martin, Andy Cohen with warriors from the Ke$ha tribe, Tina Fey, Manila Luzon with Sahara Davenport, Drunk Ass Sandra Lee, Jane Velezzie-Mitchell with a chick who is giving me the dizzies and Rollerina.

"That said, I am moving on to more pressing matters, like Charlie Sheen's road show, and Kirstie Alley's dancing skills."
You (probably unwillingly) emphasized my point there. There are far more pressing matters than sex. And yes, I am a walking anachronism, but sofar it's gotten me through life. On that note I bid thee goodnight.

I know what continent you're from, Mickey, but wonder what galaxy or time period, if there is such thing as time travel. If you think sexuality is merely whom one sleeps with, it is that simple... where do I begin? No, I'm not going there, as we Americans say. I'll say this, though... sure you believe in sexual freedom. But not sexual equality. That is always the case with those who say "sexual preference" or "lifestyle choice." That said, I am moving on to more pressing matters, like Charlie Sheen's road show, and Kirstie Alley's dancing skills.

For someone who has a degree in French I should have picked up on that distinction earlier. My bad. I do believe that sexual freedom (is that O.K.?) is a fundamental human right though. In all honesty that's not because I'm so enlightened, you got that one right, but mainly because I feel that sexuality is overrated as it is. As long as it's consensual and above age another person's bedroom or sauna activities are of no consequence to me. I love my friends and family for who they are, not for whom they sleep with. As I said before, live and let live.
------------------------------------------------------------
Who are you calling silly cow?
FYI, Mickey, words such as "preference" are similar in many languages, because its root is Latin. You wrote preference because you believe one's sexuality is a preference, one sexuality above another, a conscious choice. I don't know about the Netherlands, but I know of other nations, in particular the United States, and when people speak of one's "sexual preference," "people's sexual choices," and my disingenuous favorite, "I support your right to choose your lifestyle," it is invariably mean-spirited so-called Christian
a-holes. Just sayin'. If you really believe in one's sexual "preference," then of course you will side with Ricky Martin's lying when he was a hot ticket making big money, then switched sides when he fell to C-list status. You like to seem like an enlightened and accepting person, but no, you are not fooling me.
One of my hags at work told me Josh Flagg from "Million Dollar Listing" is coming out this week. His boyfriend is as gross as you would expect....some twink interior designer.
I bet his grandmother is totally cool with it, though. Love her.

As a straight woman I probably have no business butting in, but I'm Dutch so I can't help myself. I would expect the gay community to be more empathic toward one of their own. So what if Martin denied his sexual preference before? Maybe he had compelling reasons to do so. We have no idea what his personal circumstances were at the time. Besides, not everyone is cut out to be the hero at the barricades. Which leaves all the more room for those who are.
----------------------------------------------------
You're right, Mickey. Not everyone is cut out to be a hero at the barricades. But when this hypocrite wins an award over people who are out there actually doing heroic things, and has the gall to show up and accept it so he can move a few more copies of his shitty book, then I have a huge problem with that, with him and with GLAAD.

I only figured it out when he had a surrogate have his children...other than that he was just SUCH the hotness...that smile could melt steel.
Whatever. If they want to spread the love in Brazil, they can't do it in Spanish.
Ricky is a fortunate gay homosexual!
I had no idea that the whole "coming out" was such serious business. My sis never officially came out, but once you move in with a girl and bring her to family-functions and you all are sleeping in the same bed when staying over at my Dad`s house, you dont have to do much explaining. I can respect anyone`s choice, not to declare an official "Coming out Day" and to just do what works best for them.

Mickey, you express yourself better in English than I can in any of the other languages I have studied. You're quite fluent and polite. The acceptable terms for matters relating to gender and sexuality change frequently-I make mistakes myself .

As for gays denying themselves. My mother's late cousin spend his whole life with his one true love and a bottle of booze because he hard a hard time accepting himself. He always said he had rather been straight and married with kids. Who knows what motivates people to do what they do? Live and let live, that's all I'm saying.

Hey, Holland... there is no excuse for saying or writing "sexual preference" any more. And I don't care if you're as old as Betty White.
How do you say "full of shit" in the Netherlands? Yeah, not everyone is cut out to be a hero. Sure. But not being a hero is different from being a bald-faced denying liar.

My first husband was latino....and his parent's fucking LOVED me, ,mainly because I was a blonde, blue eyed, gringo....they were much nicer to me then their son.
"If Drinks Aren't Involved, Then Neither Am I."
I just read all the comments expressing anger at celebs who stay in the closet. Or anyone who doesn't come out?
Not being gay, I don't feel totally qualified to express an opinion.
My brother is gay. He came out when he was 20. He was always my best friend. I could see how difficult it was and must have been for so long. I was terrified that he would kill himself. I still am, actually.
It can be terrifying to be different in this world. That's why I so admire those who, from somewhere, gather up the courage to live openly.
My heart goes out to those still struggling, especially teenagers. As I recall, the leading cause of death among teen homosexuals is suicide. That just kills me.

Co-sign!! (((Mr. M)))
One of my best friends, who's a little older than me so he's like a big brother, came out in the 80s when he was in high school to his very old-fashioned Mexican mom and dad. His dad was very hard on him for a little bit, but after a while, he came around, and my friend's been out and proud with a family who has loved and supported him and even came to love and accept his longtime partner as part of the family. He's definitely a hero in my book, and to this day he speaks of just being true to yourself.
I've never had to come out and can't imagine what that's like, but I think some are able to break through the fear much easier than others, and some may use their coming out stories for ulterior motives. Sadly, in the over-all Latino community, it's still taboo and not widely accepted to be a gay man unless you're Juan Gabriel or you fit into a "funny" stereotype which you now see and hear all over Spanish media. Ricky doesn't fit that stereotype. Perhaps this is pandering on both the part of GLAAD and Ricky, but in the end, I hope it helps those gay Latino men and boys be okay and even open with who they are.
I'm so sorry for what you had to go thru, Mr. M. That was beyond unfair to you. I applaud your truth and honor. (((Mr. M))
Men and women who have the courage (and it does take courage) to be open about their sexuality are my HEROES. And they are making a difference, especially celebs. Just in the past 10 years, TV and movies have starting depicting same sex relationships as normal. That trickles down into the mass consciousness. It matters. Society is changing.
Just today I saw a gallup poll showing 58% of U.S. in favor of legalizing same sex marriages, full equality under the law. It will get better.
Good for Ricky. I think for some people it's scarier.

@Mr. Mercury - Fear does do some shit to you. I understand fear, humiliation, and intimidation. Perhaps Ricky denied, denied, and denied and came out - but I don't believe he had a plan to "come out" in case shit went down. Maybe I'm naive.
I really don't give a fuck what made it easier for him to come out - resurrection of his career, money, whatever. It was still courageous. I know the joto jokes flew at him. He got a nice cash cushion - sure. And the average gay doesn't get that. But it's true that it feels better not to hide.
I can imagine your turmoil and struggle. I don't know where you got your inspiration to allow yourself to be you, but without divulging too much what I do for a living, I can say that people tell me their most intimate thoughts, struggles, etc., and I've found that they DO look to others' experiences for strength with their decisions. If it's not so "rare," then it's not so scary.
Especially for my brown people, who I've experienced to be extremely hurtful w/their homophobia. Not drawing the line at verbal.
But I ~*~*DO*~*~ understand and respect others who say "screw him, the reason he did it is b.s. and isn't representative of something real."
:(

I loves ya Fraggle, so I will concede that often people are forced into a closet, usually for monetary reasons, like Mr. Martin.
I get upset though since my own experiences growing up gay were frankly, brutal. Homophobia knows no cultural boundaries IMO. My family tried to beat it out of me and finally disowned me. I was alone, but I never denied myself to anyone. Sometimes watching obvious gay celebs pretend to be straight to make a buck makes me beyond stabby. Still, for you, I will tone it down on Ricky. He does have nice teeth, I'll give him that! To you, {{{HUGS}}}!
Mr. Mercurial personality,
I was a total lesbo when I was growing up, I was totally turned on by women during my puberty and I had girl crushes on all of my girlfriends (even though they didn't know it). I like men too though. I love sucking dick and I love licking clit. I'm the frustrated 'bi'. My husband jokingly calls me a dyke and I jokingly call my husband a fag.
Sanity? Nope. Not at this address.
Tina Fey should've come out when she picked up that award.
I've never liked Enriqueta but I think this is Glaad's publicity stunt and not his, and by the way, if it's true that he's done so much charity work, then they should've given him an award years ago and challenge him to pick it up.
He could've lived the same way Jodie Foster does, without the need of a public statement but at the same time not living in a closet.

Like many others posting today, I have an aversion to those who deny, deny, deny...and then come out when it's convenient for them to do so, or they're desperate enough to use their status for one more walk on a red carpet. Rollerina should have knocked Ricky on his ass, beat the shit out of him with her magic wand, and boogied away. Seeing her on the Village streets back in the day was a treasure, I wish you all could have had that experience.

Yes, people ARE forced into the closet, unfortunately. But you can't have it both ways. You can't milk the mainstream publicity machine and repeatedly deny your sexuality, then turn around and use it when you have nothing left to fall back on. You want to deny who you are, fine. I get it, I understand the industry, but when you do that, you should give up all ties to being able to trade in on that denial when the chips are down. So fuck Ricky Martin. He should have just kept his mouth shut. The only person who benefitted fom his coming out is him.

Adding my voice to the condemnation of Ricky and GLAAD. The only interest is which of these is the bigger whore- Martin for trying to suck up to a community he denounced many times over several years and has now come running to, arms wide open and memory blank, in hopes of extending his fame another 15 minutes, or GLAAD for selling out by glorifying these has-been hypocrites in order to star fuck their way to relevancy.
