One Thing I've Learned From The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Poster
This is the international poster for The Girl with the Puff the Magic Dragon Tattoo and it has opened my eyes to one thing: the classic black censor box can officially retire. The black censor box has protected our children's eyes from lady nipples for years and it's served us well. But there's a new nipple-shielding sheriff in town. I'm talking about Daniel Craig's arm. Daniel Craig's arm is an effective nipple blocker and it's attached to Daniel Craig. Is the black censor box attached to Daniel Craig? Exactly.
This is a win/win for everybody. It's a win for followers of the THINK OF THE CHILDREN movement. It's also a win for topless sluts. Even the biggest topless slut out there won't mind her nipples getting blocked if Daniel Craig's arm did the blocking.

The poster is advertising Lisbeth. What pisses me off is that Lisbeth would never sexualize herself like that, especially one who has been brutally raped. Gives off a very poor look of what kind of heroine she is.
I agree with both you and TrashyWilma. I don't like this poster at all. I never read the books, only saw the Swedish flick and she came off as such a strong and independent woman that this poster looks like it's trying to take away her power. Why does he look like he's holding her hostage? They were partners.

To all of you out there who think the books are boring, well, actually they sort of are. The English translation is rather stilted and does not do justice to the original Swedish text....
As for the 3 original movies, I cannot stress enough that yes, they were made-for-tv and the relative lack of budget shows. However, Noomi Rapace and Mikael Nivquist were absolutely perfect as Lisbeth and Bloomquist.... Daniel Craig gives me hives so you can count me out as far as teh remakes are concerned, especially since I know that they are not going to do justice to the original story in order to appeal to a broader audience than the one a NC17 rating would bring.
And NC17 is surely the rating it would get,were TPTB to respect the orginal story....

I'm really looking forward to this movie. No, I'm not an idiot who hates subtitles. I saw all three "originals." The first one was good and Noomi Rapace was amazing, but the last two looked like made-for-TV movies. Not done as well as they should have been. I saw the last one in an independent theatre and it felt more appropriate for Lifetime. I love watching foreign films but I'm not above slandering the ones that suck.
So when people ask: why a remake? Two out of the three sucked. Let's see IF Hollywood can do it better.
That said, I hate this poster. This movie is going to do well. Why did they have to degrade the new Lisbeth by slapping her naked body up while the male lead remains fully clothed? This character is not a sexual person.
Great. Now I have doubts.

Someone was talking a while back about Phillipa Gregory. That's my kind of thing. I love historical fiction. I thought The Constant Princess was even better than The Other Boleyn Girl.

Stoney, that was Joe Shmoe and me talking about books. I love Philippa Gregory, Alison Weir and Antonia Frazer, they write historical fiction and non-fiction. Philippa Gregory also's written "The Boleyn inheritance". I love history so much.

I can't deal with rape in movies. The rape in TGWTDT made me cry. Others that have fucked me up royally are The Accused and the one in Pulp Fiction. There are many movies that I *ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT WATCH* becuase I have been told there is rape in them, like Deliverance and Requiem for a Dream. Just thinking about it fills me with despair and anger and nausea, and I have never been raped myself.
On a lighter not, re: good books, I am having lots of fun dreading my ever-growing collection of 1950s-60s Harlequin romance novels. Now that is some good shit!

Daniel Waters has a really good young adult trilogy about kids who are ages 13-19 and die but come back to life as zombies. Imagine some kid dying in a car wreck or suicide and coming back to life. I'm not into zombies but the handling of the subject matter is an A++.
A good adult book is Buried Prey by John Sandford. It's got everything you could want in a cop thriller.
I seriously thought that was James Woods or Lou Reed on the poster.
That rape in Irreversible was AWFUL! A guy walks in and sees it happening and then leaves! *shudders*
A lot of YA books are much more intelligent and better written than the stuff for adults. I've been reading Scott Westerfeld's steampunk books, and they are way superior to many of the "serious fiction" books you will find.

Yeah Snowy it's about a boy and his mom told through the eyes of a 5 yr old. I must admit at first i hated it but then it grew on me. I'm also addicted to the Pretty Little Liars books (i know they are for teens but it's not twilight so shut up) and all the books True Blood is based on.
Sometimes it is nice to have mindless reading.

I have no interest in this book or movie. I am currently rereading Peyton Place.
Also, my kids are not little anymore, but I remember trying to get them to go to sleep, and for that reason, I want to read "Go The Fuck to Sleep" by Adam Mansbach. It looks like a book for children but is for adults.
