I know that life is complicated, and family is even more so. But I'm still sticking my oar in:
Why are you putting up with this from your brother? Does he earn the bulk of the money, or contribute in some other way? That, I could actually understand, if not like.
Did he, perchance, expect a parade for "letting you out" for a birthday pedicure?
I don't think the situation is doing anyone any favours. Your mother is missing out on good care, you're risking burnout, and your brother will, if he continues on this road, end up antagonising people who have no obligation to put up with him.
Trust me, no housemate, girl/boyfriend, or spouse will stay silent for very long. And double trust me, as someone who has had to live with slobs as housemates, they will hate whoever allowed them to grow up like that.

when i came back from grocery shopping, my mother was having chest pains, a new symptom for her. i sat with her through it while my brother walked in and out whenever he felt like it ("call me when something's happening"). i called the nurse, put away the groceries, gave her pain meds, changed the light bulb, asked the nurse the proper questions, and, after my mother finally got her heart rate down and is off to, hopefully, peaceful slumber, i will be watching her like a hawk all night while my brother sleeps next door, undisturbed. i know it will never be even 75/25 with him. i'm just trying to keep the peace and do what i would do if he wasn't around, because most times he might as well not be.
he *did* let me go out so i could get my pedicure for my birthday yesterday, though, so i guess i shouldn't complain.

If you are uncomfortable talking to her about it, your gut may be telling you, you don't trust her yet. Now if she told you and seems cool, why not tell her after you've gone out and gotten to know her better? That way it won't interfere with your running for PTA, and gives you some time to get better acquainted. Win-win. ;)

Curse you suburbs! I need more gayelles in my life! I've only found one at my school and she is the custodian and I have found no way to out myself to her although she seems really nice, it seems like a really risky move since I am up for PTA president this year and the vote is not until next week.
Any advice from you slores? She is actually a good friend to have on my side because you know the office and maintenance staff basically run the whole school, but IDK if she is a gossip, and it's not like I'm looking to date anybody, or her in particular, but I would like to make some not-straight friends. Obviously there could be some gay parents that just aren't out, like me, but none that I can tell yet. A lot of racist and at the least xenophobic parents here so I try to keep my private like--or anything "different" about me to myself, which has never been my policy until this year, so it's been a really huge change for me.
Damn, that was in 2007, times flies.

I have a friend who loves that crap, but I don't mind confessing that I'm a wuss regarding those things. I've only seen a guy getting beheaded and that was enough for me. I got sick, lost my appetite that day and could barely sleep for two weeks. My brother had seen it before me, I thought he was joking and that it was all fake. He warned me against it but I saw it anyway.
Whoever said that ignorance is bliss had never been more accurate.

PSL -- Pete deserves an severe ass-kicking. And OMG, I, too, love Ginsberg. I wouldn't say it's exactly a crush, but I really look forward to seeing him. He's adorable, reminds me of a young Dustin Hoffman, and I like him because he's so earnest, so talented, and he knows the score at SCDP. I also think he's hard-working and is very devoted to his father. Plus that story about him being born in a concentration camp is just heart-breaking. I positively hate it when Don treats him like shit; it's very painful to see that and I hope one day he turns the tables on Don.

PSL- OMG I love Ginsberg, too. I laughed so hard when he thought Don had fired Megan and then complained about the $15 she borrowed. He has no inner filter or sense of appropriateness, but he's completely genuine. He's extremely interesting to me and I hope next season they explore his character more.
