No, I am not in Japan. The name comes from a friend of mine. We were talking about what we would title our memoirs. Mine was "I Was a Trailer Park Baby" and hers was "Crazy in Japan." The poor girl was bipolar and had her first manic episode while on tour in Japan with Up With People. Turns out jetlag can trigger a manic episode. Anyway, she got away from her group and roamed the Tokyo subway for hours, screaming and laughing, half-dressed. She was very tall and Scandinavian-looking. I can just imagine her terrorizing those folks like a giant blond Godzilla. Anyway, a cop chased her down and she bit him. They took her to a nuthouse, where she sort of "came to" with all these people speaking Japanese to her. She said it all seemed very surreal. Her dad had to get an emergency passport to retrieve her and take her back to the States. Since then she has gotten treatment and is doing very well now.

I also like the moniker because, well, compared to our culture, the Japanese culture seems, well, "different." Those crazy Japanese kids! Aren't they fun?

What Puerto Rican/Caribbean is going to pretend that they are surprised about a touch of African in their blood? And I think that what she is saying is that what Hollywood tends to show are extremes of blackness, from DA GHETTO/HOOD to a black (religious) middle-class courtesy of Tyler Perry. It's pretty hard to find much in between.

And as for the trashy and black, perhaps she is alluding to how Hollywood rewards tragedy, how it is comfortable with what it thinks it knows.
