Your Man Mike Rowe Spoke At A Romney Roundtable Today

Mike Rowe, the host of both Discovery's Dirty Jobs and many of your conscious fap dreams, took a break from swimming in shit rivers in the sewers to say stuff at a micro-manufacturing victory roundtable hosted by Mitt Romney in Bedford Heights, Ohio today. Romney invited Mike Rowe to the roundtable after Mike sent him a letter saying that this country needs to show more support for the blue collar workers. Mike sent the same letter to Obama in 2009, but didn't get a response. So at the roundtable today, Mike said that we need to show more appreciation for the blue collar workers of America and try to make those jobs more desirable before robots from China replace US ALL! Mike never officially endorsed Romney, but I can't say I'd be mad if he turned around, dropped his pants, spread his cheeks and showed us the Rowe 4 Romney tattoo he has on his prune lips.

USA Today has a rundown of what basically came out of Mike's mouth today:

"We have unintentionally disconnected ourselves ... from the most important part of our workforce," Rowe said as he paid tribute to the "people who keep the lights on, people who allow toilets to work" and "people who pick up roadkill."

Rowe, also known for his Ford commercials, made headlines when he penned an open letter to the GOP presidential nominee, asking for a "national conversation" about what he calls a "skills gap."

"Our country has become emotionally disconnected from an essential part of our workforce," Rowe wrote to Romney. "We are no longer impressed with cheap electricity, paved roads, and indoor plumbing. We take our infrastructure for granted, and the people who build it."

Rowe said he accepted Romney's invitation to be at the business roundtable so he could help put a spotlight on the need for skilled labor. "We need more opportunity and training," Rowe said, adding that there also needs to be "desire" to do blue-collar jobs.

When he wrote the letter, Rowe told Romney he'd vote for him in November if he read the whole thing. He gave no clue on how he'll cast his ballot.

The only thing I have to add after seeing Mike Rowe stand next to Mitt Romney with all those serious faces in the background is that it might take me a while.... and I might have to take breaks.... and I'll definitely have to give myself a pep talk every few minutes.... and I'm going to use every possible lube in my kitchen cabinet, but I'm going to find a way to fap to this. And that is the dirtiest job of all.

Yep, as long as they're celebs, Obama will listen. Meanwhile all he's doing is supporting and signing an auto-bailout that makes it possible for all these working class folks who work in, or are connected to the auto industry to have jobs. Mitt Romney would have said no to the bailout. Let Detroit go bankrupt he wrote in an op-ed he paid for with his riches.

And yet you have no comments about the NAACP event where Obama didn't bother showing up, and had Biden there...but Romney did, knowing full well that would be a hostile crowd. A crowd that gave him a standing ovation at the end of his speech.

Obama bailed out GM because of UAW/AFSCME and everyone else that helped him win his first election. And only time will tell if he saved their jobs cause I hear they're in trouble again. And if Romney wins, and GM goes into bankruptcy again, I can't wait for you people to lie and say it's Romney's fault...even when it's apparent today that they're struggling under Obama's watch.

Obama doesn't care about the Middle Class. In fact the rich have gotten richer under Obama's term in office. So if you're one of those, "It's not fair that people are rich and I'm not" then why the fuck are you voting for a President that has increased the gap between the rich and everyone else?

Half you people vote the way you do because you are cult of personality types. You don't care what the person is actually about, what their policies actually do, or who's actually behind them, you only care that he likes basketball, you can have a beer with him, and that he fist bumps. In short, you're fools and we are currently living in an Idiocracy, not a Democracy. You idiots voted in George Bush Jr. for 8 Years, now you're trying to vote in this moron for 4 more.

This is a bit off topic but if you're planning to vote make sure that you're registered or your info is up to date. Although we live in a Democratic society not everyone wants you to vote; there is currently and will be on voting day a lot of trickery going on. I just got back my poll location card from my county and it said my voting location is 30 miles from my house. The correct location is less than a quarter mile from my home. Meaning if I hadn't looked at my card before hand I would have shown up at the one near my house only to be turned away because I was assigned to a different polling area. So imagine how many people who have to work that day will be told they have to make it 30 + miles from their home before or after work without time to spare to get there.

Meh. I'm voting Obama, but I still like Mike Rowe. Glad to hear he didn't actually endorse Romney.

I do think it's rather strange to make comments of this nature at a Romney forum, especially in the wake of his disparaging comments about the poor, to include the working poor. Blue-collar jobs don't pay what they used to AT ALL thanks to Republican union-busting efforts, so appealing to a Republican (AND a guy who built his massive personal wealth exporting blue-collar jobs to countries with cheaper labor) to fix it is just bizarre and pointless.

"The rich prop up society. They hire, they expand, they are the big wheels."

Orly? When's the last time Paris Hilton hired anyone? Except for maybe a maid or two who she pays under the table...The "rich" are paying the lowest taxes they have paid since 1950, right now, so where are all these jobs that they are "propping up society" with? Small businesses hire more than anyone and the people who own them are generally NOT wealthy. They "prop up society"? Nonsense. You know who does that? Educators...fire fighters...etc. The working class. Btw, no-one is asking for "handouts". People seem to be getting the idea that b/c something is called an 'entitlement' that the receiver is getting something he or she didn't earn, when that couldn't be further from the truth. Social security and Medicare are not "handouts". People pay into those. And most people have paid into the Medicaid and other benefits that they may need to use at some point, as well. Considering the average length of benefits usage is two years? That person has been working prior to that and contributed taxes to pay for it.

but mitt has still a big chance, after all a military deserter and all around failure like bush was elected twice ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

You're here bitching that a celeb wrote a letter that Obama ignored because he only likes celebs? That doesn't even make sense.

Romney and the Republicans do not support a strong infrastructure, that would create too many fake, evil big government jobs, and Romney wouldn't be able to fire more people. I have no issue with Rowe being a Republican.

What I have an issue with is someone who goes to a forum and spouts off about things that the man sitting behind you does not fucking support, at all. It's idiot. What's next, Neil Patrick Harris shows up to talk about how wonderful gay marriage is and how he's voting for Romney because Romney answered his letter?

Romney gets shit cause he actually shows up to events that he's invited to, answers letters of concern. Let's people talk at his events that more than likely aren't for him.

But Obama, doesn't show up when he's invited (NAACP), doesn't bother answering Mike Rowe's letter, cause Mike isn't George Clooney...

But there is disappointment in Romney and Rowe?

Amazing...this is why I can't support he Celebutante...way too much hypocrisy from his acolytes, I mean, fans, I mean supporters.

The US has pushed college for higher paying jobs so much that these smaller type jobs cannot be filled after the previous generation retires. You can't outsource these hard-working jobs overseas.

Ironically this was posted on September 17 in Dear Abby.

DEAR ABBY: America's tradesmen -- plumbers, electricians, auto mechanics, roofers, masons and more -- get very little respect. In fact, the only time these skilled professionals get our attention is when we have an emergency.

This lack of regard is leading our nation down an unfortunate pathway, as fewer and fewer young people pursue jobs in these professions. If we don't change our attitude about the worth of tradesmen, who will build our homes and schools, repair our cars, keep our water flowing and our power turned on?

On Sept. 21, we have a chance to thank a tradesman. The date has been earmarked as National Tradesmen Day. Everyone can participate: Drop a box of doughnuts at the job site near your home. Call your plumber and say, "Thank you for your help over the years." Invite a skilled tradesman to speak at your child's school. The ways to honor them are limitless. Abby, would you help to get the word out? -- JEFF D. IN GREENVILLE, S.C.

DEAR JEFF: I'm pleased to help because I agree with your message. Tradespeople don't often receive the respect and gratitude they deserve. Everyone needs to know his or her efforts are valued and appreciated, and failure to extend this courtesy may affect our quality of life in the coming decades.

In years past, skilled trades were handed down with pride from one generation to the next. However, as baby boomers have been retiring, fewer young people have been stepping forward to take their place. In fact, according to a recent talent shortage survey by ManpowerGroup, more jobs for skilled tradesmen go unfilled than any other category of employment.

Why? Because there aren't enough trained replacements to fill openings for electricians, welders, mechanics, plumbers, roofers and more.

Part of the reason may be our emphasis on pursuing advanced college degrees for almost everyone. But another may be the lack of respect that has been shown for these vital occupations. The result has been, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, that for every three tradesmen who retire, only one person is stepping up to fill the gap.

I hear from many readers whose young adult children are unable to find work. Talk with them about this. People in the trades can earn good money. Visit a local community college with your son or daughter and learn more about classes and certifications available for skilled trades.

And please, show tradespeople how much their contributions are valued. Call your favorite handyman, plumber and HVAC technician not to once again scream for help, but to express your appreciation. Treat them to a box of your special home-baked cookies or brownies, refer them to your friends and family so they can get additional business, write to your local newspapers, websites or blogs expressing your appreciation.

Visit nationaltradesmenday.com, and please remember, these hardworking individuals need to know that although National Tradesmen Day is Friday, we are grateful for their efforts the other 364 days a year, too.

All liberals and sane folk on the Dlist need to calm down. Romney is going to lose. He's gonna lose so bad, it will rival the Bush vs. Kerry election. Remember, the one they said was gonna be so close and it really wasn't? And I can say this with all honesty and free from bias, I am not an Obama supporter, but even I know Mitt's full of Shit. I see a bumper sticker in the making!

"And this is how stupid and naive these people, including Rowe, are. Romney is the EXACT opposite of what they are asking for. THEY are the little people Romney does not give a shit about. They are like lemmings jumping off a cliff if they vote for Romney."

You can talk about the poor all you want and say we have to help them this and we have to help them that. But when the day is said and done, you still have your poor. People hear a whole lotta noise about the 1% or the 47% or whatever. When the day is said and done, it is the same; you are always going to have your rich, and you are always going to have your poor. Regardless of time or era or society. The rich prop up society. They hire, they expand, they are the big wheels. They employ people for a wage. You want to start to destroy that, get socialistic. Take a really good look at Greece, Spain, Portugal and Italy. Commonly known as the P.I.G.S. They have run it right into the ground and people are going nuts. And Great Britian is not far behind. They had handouts galore, until they ran out of money...........................

Cookie you can stereotype to your hearts content. Rush Limbaugh is a multi-zillionaire conservative and he's about as loud and abrasive as they come. As far as jobs, the country went to hell due in large part to conservatives in positions of financial power - banks, hedge fund guys, etc etc, all trying to make a buck (or a million) on someone else's money. Romney and Bain operated by buying companies, downsizing them (firing people), loading the companies with tons of debt, billing those companies millions for "management services" and other unsavory practices that were/are the anti-thesis to the type of guy Rowe was talking about. Romney also outsources his MONEY, preferring to shirk taxes by using offshore accounts. He has ZERO interest in the average American.

I love Mike so I'm a little disappointed in this. Obama pushed to bail out the auto-makers which greatly benefited Ohio because they have tons of auto manufacturing businesses there. This is something that Romney has criticized Obama for doing. Also Romney's comments about the 47% percent are counter to this support of "blue collar workers" kick he's on right now.
