Just because it's not easy to get citizenship doesn't make it an excuse to cross the border via illegal means. That's like saying, you want an expensive cut of meat, can't afford it, and so therefore you steal it. It doesn't make it okay.
Also, I have disagree that we are "all immigrants to this land. "1.a person who migrates to another country, usually for permanent residence."
That's the definition of an immigrant.

On the illegal immigrant tip:
Mrs. Hockey Fan used to drive a delivery truck for a wholesale business in our city. She delivered to a ton of convenience stores, mostly run by immigrants. She was told by one of these immigrants that the US government lets illegals come here and buy franchises (Subway, anyone?) or little stores tax free for three years. That's right-- no property tax, no income tax, no NOTHING. Then, at the end of the three years, they sell the business to another immigrant (usually a family member), who then...yes, say it with me...PAYS NO TAXES FOR THREE YEARS. This goes on and on and on, indefinitely, for as long as our good old USA allows it. The govt does nothing to stop it. And I am not hating on any party-- this apparently started a long time ago and no one has done anything to stop it.
(And the reason I mention Subway is bc, in my city, you rarely find one
of their franchises that isn't run by Pakistanis/Indians/some other minority.)
joe shmoe, all things considered, I consider myself pretty lucky when it comes to allergies....I have one severe allergy that is identifiable (bee stings), and only a mild allergy to walnuts. No medications. That is, until today; I have no idea where this hivey reaction came from, so I'm gonna have a doc check it out. Maybe I'm now allergic to sesame? who the hell knows.

1) I know someone who works in Border Patrol. Without going into details let me just say that the things those guys do to illegal immigrants are absolutely horrendous and criminal. Inhuman, terrorist type behavior. I understand the job of escorting them back, I will never understand the drive to treat them like subhuman POS.
2) Many people who are obsessed with immigrants going through the legal process to be here and that being the only path have never been through the path themselves. A lot are born here and just take their citizenship for granted and others had their citizenship applications done for them by parents when they were children. I'm not saying the process is necessarily difficult, it's just that some kids whose parents were illegal themselves and thus weren't legalized as children find themselves in a tough position that people are unnecessarily enraged by. I know that I wasn't sitting around in middle school thinking, "hmm, I'd like to be legal in this country, I should get my papers together for that" because I never had to and that makes me very lucky. Yet the illegal kids who might have had to think about that were KIDS, so they didn't think about it either. Now if they admit to being illegal they're trapped. They have lived their lives as Americans and through the fault of their parents or of their mother not birthing them here they are screwed.
Let's remember we're all immigrants to this land whether it happened recently or through long ago ancestors. We're not in the golden age where all you have to do is have enough money to get to Ellis Island and be healthy enough to be let it in to be considered legal. It's a lot more difficult now.

Good Lord! That is a cautionary tale. I'm glad you didn't have a more serious reaction than you did. A young woman who has very severe allergies to *everything* - seafood, nuts, dairy, chicken, certain vegies was hired where I work. She gave us all a tutorial in how to use her Epi-Pen if she collapsed. A couple of the more immature employees were cringing and mumbling, OMG!!! I can't!! (as though we were going to perform a tracheotomy on her; srsly!).
I felt quite sorry for her - her whole life revolved around making sure she wasn't coming into contact with these allergens although she was pretty low-key and cheerful about it. She also had a pretty boring diet.

People with allergies, don't be an idiot like me and let your Epi-Pen's expire. I haven't had an anaphylactic reaction in years--last time was 1996--but you just never know when that shit could strike!
My s.o. and I went on a hike, because its' 60 degrees and farkin' gawgeous outside. It was a bit hilly, but nothing too strenous, I popped a Zyrtec beforehand to ward off the normal hayfever and was doing fine until about 3 miles into the 3.5 mile hike. We stopped to figure out which direction we wanted to go, then I suddenly got hit with a wave of nausea. It wouldn't go away and I tried to make myself throw up, but that wasn't working either. So after 10 mins of resting he and I hiked the rest of the way up to the lodge, where I promptly threw up three times.
I felt better after that, but once we got home, I realized my face had swelled up like a balloon and I had hives everywhere!!! I have literally no idea where this came from. It's still early March, too early for the pollen to be out in full force. I did eat some sesame noodles 1 hour before hiking, but I'm not allergic to sesame (that I know of). And I didn't feel any insect stings. So off to the allergist I go, to renew my epi pen prescription and to figure out what the fark happened out there. And now I'm going back to bed to sleep off the Benadryl.

In the last few months I've read about two people - a guy and a girl - whose parents entered this country illegally when they were small. The kids became Americanized and went to college and law school (they don't know each other). One can't take the bar but isn't in danger of being deported. The other one is scheduled to be deported. Then there's the kids who were born here but their parents are being deported and they have no choice but to go with them and live in Mexico or South America where they are strangers. That's fucked up.

People who are innocent and actually worked hard to make something of themselves and have something to contribute to society, instead of sitting around being a waste, and can't because of bullshit. If they are American Citizens, they should have the same privileges as everyone else.
My friend does missionary work in Durango, Durango, Mexico, dealing mainly with English speaking individuals and you'd be surprised AT HOW OFTEN THIS HAPPENS. These people grew up here, America WAS their home as far as they knew, were concerned and could remember, and then they are shipped in to a land they know nothing about and feel betrayed, because of what their parents decided to do years ago. It's not right. I agree Many changes and reform needs to be brought about to protect both sides of the equation.

Bored, the only thing I DO have a problem with is how a lot of the illegals are treated by American citizens. No, they don't belong here but that doesn't give ANYONE the right to terrorize them or hurt them or treat them like anything less than a human being. I recognize that so many of them are running from poverty and probably abuse, and they are terrified. They shouldn't be doing this but neither should they have to fear anything beyond arrest by COMPASSIONATE border patrols working within the law.

You're right, they are human,however, they put themselves through inhumane risks as well. I saw a story a long time ago, about a bunch of illegal immigrants who died from heat exhaustion due to being smuggled in one of those 18 wheeler storage trucks in order to be snuck across. When you willingly put yourself in those situations, you bring the outcome on yourself. Some of them commit crimes here and then high tail it back to their country to avoid prosecution. And I know I'm going to sound racist, but I think for the post part, our predominate language here is English, granted you wouldn't know that lately, considering how people butcher the hell out of it. And I don't mean typos or small grammatical errors. You look at any facebook post/text message in general nowadays and you know what I mean.I'm not saying people should have to give up their native tongue,but I do think in regard to business of any kind I think it should be required to learn. The majority of my grandfather's lineage is of Native American ancestry. Their language consist of Cajun french, that was his first language.Him and siblings learned and spoke English when they dealt with the public. At home and around each other they spoke their native tongue. I'm not going to get in to the whole, "but they had their land ripped away they have the right to speak anyway they feel", the point is, the majority of the populace NOW speak English. Some who move here from other places expect people to learn their language, instead of learning the common spoken language in the place in which they moved. If I were to go to France, I wouldn't assume everyone I needed to help me knew English, I'd learn enough French in order to be able to communicate to get my meaning across. Yet you have people who live here for years, and still refuse to learn. Border Patrol seems to be hot mess so I won't even get in on that discussion.

If someone wants to come here for whatever reason, then it should be done through proper and legal channels. There are definitely exceptions like women who seek emergency asylum because they were targeted for rapes in their own countries or people who betrayed their governments to help us. I get that. But if your ass is sneaking into my country without permission, your ILLEGAL ass is now sucking MY tax dollars because you now have the same rights as I do with regards to due process and free lawyers, you HAVE TO BE seen and treated at any public hospital E.R. for no charge because you can't get insurance, you are most likely not going to be able find work that pays much so you're probably going to commit a crime (or three) and then my taxes pay to house you in prison, and what really fucking galls me is not only do you expect MY government to take care of you, YOU WON'T EVEN LEARN ENGLISH SO WE HAVE TO PROVIDE TRANSLATORS AND TRANSLATIONS FOR YOUR ILLEGAL ASS!

Bored, I used to know someone who was a contractor at Yale - in the YPB. Contractors didn't then, and don't now, get benefits unless they can pay for them. He used to sit there, not having been able to afford to see a doc or a dentist in years because of no insurance, and have to watch these welfare parasites - some of them fucking illegal aliens - come in and get the world's best medical care on HIS dime. He worked 45+ hours per week for little money and got no medical care, but these people worked not at all and got only the best. SMDH.

I don't eat at restaurants that are shady. I'd be willing to bet the places she and her friends sold to LOOK like they'd accept stuff like that. Any reputable establishment isn't going to risk their business by buying back door food.

At least chain restaurants have a specific source in which they get their product shipped. Locally owned or places owned by one proprietor, unless reallllllly well known by the community can still be risky regardless of how nice it looks inside. Bored, on top of that, here in CT (I don't know about other states) unless you have a kid (or twelve - thank you Murray Povich), you can't even get food stamps. Old people can but they get so little, it doesn't help all that much. I know a 70+ year old woman at church whose food stamps allotment is a damn joke. She worked all her life and did everything she was supposed to do but the state gives her grief about food stamps, her medications, her Social Security. It's sickening.

I agree. Add the disabled on that list of people who also get screwed. Medical care/Mental health care for those who need it, get shafted. I am all too familiar with that. The elderly have so little to live off of with that Social Security, they don't get shit. And they want to cut that? Medicare doesn't pay for everything. Meanwhile you see all these human pieces of garbage, spreading their legs and popping out child after child, with fathers no where in sight to take accountability. What in the hell???Are you kidding me? She was seriously selling that shit to restaurants? I don't use the word outrageous a lot, but that truly is OUTRAGEOUS! People like that infuriate me. Because I have heard of cases of people selling their food stamps for money. One of my business instructors in college was telling me that she overheard some employee of Wal-mart telling another girl how much she should charge her food stamps based on how much she got a month. Clearly these fraudulent bitches weren't using them to live off of.Also, remember when Old Dirty Bastard from the Wu-Tang Clan was alive, they did that interview with him, about how he went up to the food stamp office IN A LIMO and actually got approved for FOODSTAMPS.
The people who don't abuse them, and actually live off them, have to make them last, so they purchase whatever is on sale, which unfortunately as we all know, healthy food is EXPENSIVE as fuck, and the stuff "junk food" is not. So then it becomes a matter of "What's gonna be affordable to keep food on the table."

Bored, the whole food stamp system seems to be a giant shell game although I freely admit I don't have a better idea. The majority of people who are them apparently do not abuse them and want not to have to need them. It's the people (and the store who are complicit) who trade them for drugs or beer or, in many cases recently in NYC, money for strip clubs. I remember during this last fiscal fiasco, my husband's company's business decreased by 70% - no one was building houses with existing plans, never mind wanting plans drawn up. So we had to tighten our belts a lot. I was in the store one day and this land whale dripping in that awful brushed gold, with a Coach bag, was using her food stamps to buy shrimp and roasts (while talking on her iPhone) and she had such an attitude with the cashier. When she sashayed her fat ass out of the store the clerk told me that people like that woman sell the food to restaurants and pocket the cash which is how they can then afford their weed and Newports and forties. THAT sort of thing is what makes me wild. Not to mention, what kind of a restaurant buys shellfish and meat from a source they can't verify as being safe?????????

10 a.m.-ish driving down the road minding my own business i see in the opposing lane a Mercedes late model suv [not the little boxy one, the huge one] covered in red artificial roses and little tufts of white tulle. clearly someone is getting hitched. these things are covering all sides, the hood and the back of the humongo vehicle.
what i also see is that these items have bee affixed to said omg-that-thing-is-expensive vehicle with ..... clear packing tape. packing tape. it was in the 70s or so yesterday with no clouds. i'm thinking not too many places that host weddings have covered parking...
hmm, car paint + packing tape adhesive + a couple hours in direct sun + perhaps people being a little intoxicated and/or hungover when the tape removal work is being done = i really hope that was a rental car. i almost wanted to follow them and just hand them that little equation written out on a piece of paper.
how, how, could it get to the point that the vehicle is on the road without someone, just one of them going "ok, wait a minute..."

I completely agree. Heart Disease. Diabetes, and I truly believe some forms of cancer, can be avoided via eating healthily. I get having a snack once in a while, and even I'm guilty of going over board sometimes, it's happens, but overall how some people choose to gorge themselves is disgusting.
This case, I honestly, don't know her reasoning, however the way she made it seem like, it wasn't a health issue, more a long the lines of an abuse issue. My issue wasn't her stance on Junk food so much as it was like, damn bitch, you nosey as fuck. Who's the say this woman didn't work? I don't know the woman's circumstances, and clearly neither does this cunt. I agree, we should eat healthier, my whole main issue is, the last time I checked no one asked her to be the food police regardless of her disapproval. You can work and still qualify. If she wasn't allowed to buy those food items they would have been rejected. I agree with you though, those cards should allow for things like toiletries and basic necessities. Not everyone abuse those cards. Some people have worked their whole lives, fall on hard times and need help, which is what those cards/stamps were originally intended for.

@GG, Yeah I try to do that but it never seems to matter to them. If an issue arises they don't care about who was classy and who wasn't, they just want to move on. Everyone is always equal, everyone is always equally wrong and right (many times this can be true but times when it's obviously not the case aren't at all obvious to them)...unless of course it comes to views from the elders, those are always right. It's frustrating, but whatever, it's not like we're going to solve it on Dlisted. I guess I just needed to vent.
Bored, I'm not going to pretend to know what was in her mind so I'll take a wild guess. As you said, there is an epidemic of obesity in this country. I bet she was thinking that if that woman made healthier choices with the food stamps that our taxes pay for, she wouldn't have health issues that arise from obesity (like diabeetus) and then our tax dollars wouldn't be spent treating her. That's based on the assumption she was a land whale. If not, the woman could still argue that by eating frozen pizza and other junk, she is still jeopardizing her health and again with the tax payer thing. If that's what her point was then I agree. There are actually programs in a lot of cities that teach people on welfare, food stamps, any kind of assistance, how to shop healthy and eat healthy with very little money.
Having burped out that lovely soliloquy, I'm also going to say that despite this, no one has the right to tell anyone on food stamps that they can't eat junk. Do I think junk food should be allowed? Probably not but that's a battle I choose not to pick. What I don't get is why food stamps don't cover toilet paper. I don't know about anyone else, but I consider that a necessity unless one is a Bedouin.

Why are people so fucking nosey? I was reading an article online about how the casinos were seizing I forgot how many hundred of thousands in child support. Patrons who owed child support and won a certain amount got child support taken out when they went to verify winnings via some program these casinos had worked out with the legal system. ANYWAY this one woman makes a comment about foodstamps. Mind you, the story wasn't about foodstamps. She goes on about how people abuse it, which I agree, some do, and it needs to be cracked down on more, however this is where home girl skids out and loses me. She starts talking about how she was behind some woman in check out how the lady had pizza and other frozen dinners (junk food) in her cart and she paid for it with food stamps. Which was side-eye number one. Side-eye number two came when she said she didn't think such food items should be allowed and how she thinks people are abusing the card by buying it.
I'm not disputing that those foods aren't the healthiest. They aren't, and no one should subsist on them solely. Obesity is a big issue, especially in western society. We should all strive for better dietary choices,HOWEVER here's the thing. They are CHOICES. They are food allowed for purchase(therefore not abusing the card, which isn't possible unless it's from a legal standpoint, which she has no way of knowing) they aren't booze, they aren't cigarettes, they aren't clothes, they fall in to the realm of FOOD. Who knows what this woman did the week before? Maybe she has a house full of healthy food and this was just for other days? The point is, why the fuck are people so fucking nosey? Why are you worried about the food other people chose to buy and eat? I swear I can't with some people.

I was reading about Pomeranians. I guess the little ones, like Paulina's, are just runts, not another breed. The consensus seems to be (I have no idea; I'm just reporting the consensus) that they can live a normal lifespan if they're healthy, but, like any dog, it's case-by-case.

@GG, yeah, it's driving me insane how non-existent the options are and how I'm the one that gets the short end of the stick. Sometimes it seems like people are from different planets when we look at how differently we view an identical situation.
for slugs i use a cat food or tuna can (height is ideal) and fill it 1/2 or 3/4 with beer. put in the ground at the base of the plants being eaten, the top level with the soil. the slugs are attracted to the beer and will go into the can but can't get out and drown (happy, i'm sure). i tried many things but found that worked the best.

Deb & Hockey fan, I use vinegar if the weeds are small enough if not then I just put the kettle on and boil up a pot of water and then pour it on. Smells like boiled brussle sprouts.

Snails don't like to cross anything sharp. So I put rose bush cuttings around the perimeter of the hostas (which they will eat through in a night). Copper works well, too. I put some strips off the sashes of some old windows at the edges of the gardens and viola!, no snail action.
When us kids were wee things, the parents used to send us out with a box of salt to kill slugs. Hence the making of my sadistic streak. :) (j/k, I don't have one, really.)

Vinegar is a great suggestion, Hockey Fan. By using it, you organically change the soil's ph, which kills the weed.
Another thing to do is spread PREEN early, and make sure it's watered in within 3 days. It's like bierth control for weeds. It won't kill existing ones, but it stops germination of new seeds.

Teacup puppies are bread to be tiny with big eyes and cute faces. They are super expensive and rarely live a full life-sometimes their eyes are too heavy for their tiny heads so they fall out. Seriously, look it up.
What?? I tried to find something on this and there doesn't seem to be anything. Maybe only with major trauma, excessive pressure (even from a hard sneeze)? Seriously, I can't think of a way that this could otherwise happen medically.

Her new BF, Dustin Johnson, won his first PGA event of 2013 in early January and earned $1.2m. Then these two started dating and his scores started sliding. He missed a couple of cuts. He just finished the Honda Classic in Palm Beach (I assume right before these beach pix were taken) tied for 46th place and earned $16,000. He's currently tied for 11th in the Cadillac Championship in Miami, so props for that.
I'm not trying to make some Sampson and Delilah point; I'm just saying that, whatever you do for a living, you gotta stay focused on doing that one thing very well. Look how messed up ballers like Kobe and Lamar got from off-court stuff, not to mention Tiger in golf.

And oh hey, GG the Slug Killer, did you know vinegar is great for killing weeds? It might damage the plants around it, so be careful, but if you have cement weeds, pour it on and watch em die. Sort of like when we poured salt on slugs when I lived in Oregon. They were ERRYWARE and you'd step on those slimy fuckers and go sliding across the driveway. To this day my mom still probably wonders why she'd buy a big container of Morton's Salt and half of it would be gone the next day. :)
